| It is officially fall and as the weather has gotten cooler, the House of Commons is definitely heating up. As discussed in my last householder mailout, we have been debating the EV mandates which are completely unrealistic, but also remove choice from Canadians. The Liberals are also forcing through a ‘voluntary’ gun buyback (more below), crime is still out-of-control, taxes and costs are still rising for Canadian families, the Liberals are ramping up another censorship bill and more. There is no shortage of issues for me to work and report on. For the last few years, what I have heard most from constituents and other Canadians when I travel is that they have been having a hard time affording life. Well, their situations have not improved – the cost of groceries continues to rapidly increase and our economy continues to flounder. The Carney government promised all kinds of nation-building projects but the list they released was 5 projects that were mostly underway already. Talk about empty. There is a budget next month so we are waiting to see what the deficit and debt will look like. We are seeing PM Carney spend even more than PM Trudeau which is a pretty incredible feat. We will see. | Liberal Gun Grab is All About Politics The Carney Liberals have confirmed that they will continue their attacks against law-abiding, legal gun owners, despite the Minister’s own acknowledgement that he should be going after illegal guns used by criminals and street gangs. Municipal police don’t want this, provincial police don’t want this, and federal agencies don’t want this. Many have refused to cooperate. Why? Because they know law-abiding gun-owners aren’t the problem – criminals are. The Minister declared that he is “not an expert on this” but wants to jam it through anyway because that is what his mandate is from PM Carney. This is all while they failed to fix the border disorder that lets in almost all the illegal firearms used in gun crimes, with gun crime rising 130%. Violent gun crime is on the rise because of a catch-and-release bail system they created with Bill C-75, but also because Liberals have reduced penalties for at least 9 gun crimes through Bill C-5. There are some pretty simple solutions to these problems but only Conservatives support common-sense firearms policies that stand for the rights of law-abiding gunowners, that keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, keep repeat violent offenders in jail and keep Canadians safe. |
| Scrap Food Taxes Conservatives sent out the following news release earlier this week: Today, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, called on all parties to vote for the Conservatives’ motion to scrap the four hidden Liberal grocery taxes that continue to drive up the price at the till. “The Prime Minister said that he would be judged on the prices at the grocery store,” Poilievre said. “After six months as Prime Minister, the verdict is in: Food Banks Canada gave his government a failing grade while food prices have risen 48 per cent faster in Canada than in the United States. Canadians deserve nutritious, delicious, affordable food on their tables.” In August, food inflation outpaced the Bank of Canada’s inflation target by almost double as the price of food purchased from stores rose 3.5 per cent year-over-year. The price of once affordable staples like meat and potatoes has surged: potatoes are up 16 per cent, while beef rose up to 33 per cent and pork shoulder increased 14 per cent. The Daily Bread Food Banks says there will be four million visits in Toronto this year as more than 1 in 10 Torontonians now rely on food banks. Greater Montreal now fills 500,000 food aid requests a month, and Food Banks Canada reports that over a quarter of Canadians are experiencing food insecurity. The hardship Canadians are experiencing is driven by Carney’s taxes on the fuel and fertilizer that farmers need to grow food. As other costs of crop production like seed have declined, the cost of fertilizer has continued to rise over the last year. When farmers are taxed more, Canadians pay the price. That’s why Conservatives are calling on all parties to vote for the motion to scrap the Liberal food taxes: the industrial carbon tax on fertilizer and farm equipment; the fuel standard tax on diesel and gasoline; the inflation tax from Carney’s increasing money-printing deficits; and the food packaging tax on plastics and packaging. “While record numbers line up at food banks, Carney is keeping his food taxes that increase the costs Canadians pay at the grocery store,” Poilievre added. “It’s time for the government to stop taxing groceries so Canadians can have nutritious, delicious food.” Carney said Canadians could measure his performance by the price at the grocery store till. He got a failing grade, and Canadians got another Liberal bait-and-switch. Conservatives will continue fighting to restore the Canadian promise with stronger take-home pay that buys affordable food. |

| Big Changes Coming to Your Mail The Liberal government has just announced significant changes in the way Canada Post will work and how your mail is delivered. These changes are being made to address the steadily declining use of the postal system and to ensure it remains viable in the future. Canada Post is losing approximately $10 million every day. These are the most significant changes ahead: Letter Mail Delivery: Canada Post will introduce flexibilities to reflect today’s lower volumes. The average household receives just two letters per week. Non-urgent mail will shift to ground transport, extending delivery times to 3–7 days (from 3–4 days), saving over $20 million annually. Community Mailbox Conversions: Currently, three-quarters of Canadians already receive mail through community, apartment, or rural mailboxes, while one-quarter still receive door-to-door delivery. The moratorium on community mailbox conversions has been lifted. Canada Post will transition approximately 4 million door-to-door addresses to community mailboxes, saving nearly $400 million per year. Postal Network Modernization: The moratorium on rural post offices, in place since 1994, will also be lifted. The rural moratorium was imposed in 1994 and covers close to 4000 locations. It has not evolved in 30 years, but Canada has changed. This means that areas that used to be rural may now be suburban or even urban, but are still required to operate as rural post offices. Canada Post must return to the government with a plan to modernize and right-size its network. Further Update While Canadians are not as reliant on the mail system as they used to be, it still plays an important role for many. The earlier announcement to suspend the delivery of unaddressed bulk mail had a significant impact on many small businesses and charities. The most recent decision to suspend all delivery will have an even wider impact. You can get the latest updates on the negotiations between Canada Post and its unions here. |
